Preparation
Appointments are five minutes in length.

Prepare two brief contrasting monologues to total approximately three minutes. There are no musicals in the season; no singing please.

AN INSPECTOR CALLS

1st reh: 8/10/15. Runs: 9/11 - 10/11

seeking:

Sheila Birling: Female – 20-25. Daughter of Sybil and Arthur, is a pretty girl who is very pleased with life and rather excited.

Inspector Goole: Male – 45-60. A police inspector. Creates at once an impression of massiveness, solidity, and purposefulness.

Eric Birling: Male – 20-30: Sheila’s brother. Not quite at ease - half shy and half assertive.

The following roles are CAST with Resident Acting Company. Performers will be considered as possible replacements should any become necessary:

Sybil Birling: Female – 45-60: Wife of Arthur, mother of Sheila and Eric. A rather cold woman and her husband’s social superior.

Arthur Birling: Male – 45-60: Husband of Sybil, mother of Sheila and Eric. A somewhat portentous businessman, with fairly easy manners but rather provincial in his speech.

Gerald Croft: Male – 25-35: Shelia’s boyfriend. An attractive chap - rather too manly to be a dandy - but very much the easy well-bred young man about town.

Rose Maxson: Female – African-American 40-50: Troy’s wife and mother of his second child, Cory. A housewife who volunteers at her church regularly and loves her family.

Troy Maxson: Male – African-American 45-55: A restless trash collector and former Baseball Star. A large man with powerful hands, a forceful personality, and a lust for life.

Jim Bono: Male – African-American 50-60: Troy's best friend of over thirty years The only one who remembers first-hand Troy's glory days of hitting home runs in the Negro Leagues. Admires Troy’s leadership skills at work.

Gabriel Maxson: Male – African-American 40-50: Troy’s younger brother. Was a soldier in the Second World War, during which he received a head injury. Gabriel wanders around carrying a basket and singing. He often thinks he is not a person, but the angel Gabriel.

Lyons Maxson: Male – African-American 25-35: Troy’s oldest son. An ambitious and talented jazz musician. He grew up without Troy around.

Cory Maxson: Male – African-American 18-25: A high school football star. A respectful son and an ambitious young man who has the talent and determination to realize his dreams.

Aiofe Muldoon: Female – 65-75: Rosemary’s mother. In bad health, short of breath, and walks with a cane. Acts as mediator between Tony and the two younger characters, protecting mother to Rosemary, and surrogate mother to Anthony

The following roles are CAST with Resident Acting Company. Performers will be considered as possible replacements should any become necessary:

Rosemary Muldoon: Female – 35-45: Daughter of Aiofe, she holds a grudge against Anthony from when they were children, but her love for him causes her to reject the many men who have shown a romantic interest in her.

Tony Reilly: Male – 65-75: Anthony’s father, his most compelling desire is to hold on to the family farm that has been in his family for 120 years.

Anthony Reilly: Male – 40-50: Son of Tony, he has been living with a voice he hears in the fields telling him, “Go.” But he has also been dutifully doing his best to keep the family farm running.

Marlene Hayes / Dr. Badu / Barista: Female – African-American 40-55: Is an old friend of Lou and the mother of Jarrell. Dr. Badu is a transplant surgeon from Uganda. The barista has a serious attitude.

Lou Ziegler: Male – 55-65: Raina’s father. In need of a kidney donation, and he is desperate to continue living.

The following roles are CAST with Resident Acting Company. Performers will be considered as possible replacements should any become necessary:

Jarrell Hayes / Hector: Male – African-American 20-30: Jarrell is Marlene’s son who has great fondness for Lou. Hector is a nurse at the transplant hospital – he is from the Dominican Republic.

Raina Lamott: Female – 25-35: Lou’s estranged daughter. Is an often unforgiving young woman who rides a roller coaster of emotions, filled with disappointment, hate, and a few moments of conditional forgiveness.

Charley: Male – 55-70: Willy’s next-door neighbor and friend, Charley owns a successful business.

Bernard: Male – 30-40: Charley’s son, he is an important and successful lawyer.

The following roles are CAST with Resident Acting Company. Performers will be considered as possible replacements should any become necessary:

Linda Loman: Female – 50-60: Willy’s loyal, loving wife, she suffers through Willy’s grandiose dreams and self-delusions.

The Woman: Female – 35-45: Willy’s mistress when Happy and Biff were in high school.

Jenny / Miss Forsythe: Female – 25-35: Jenny is Bernard’s secretary. Miss Forsythe is a woman Biff and Happy meet on a night out.

Letta: Female – 30-40: A woman Biff and Happy meet on a night out.

Willy Loman: Male – 60-70: An insecure, self-deluded traveling salesman. Willy believes wholeheartedly in the American Dream of easy success and wealth, but he never achieves it.

Biff: Male – 30-40: Willy’s elder son, he has led a charmed life in high school but has been fired from every job as an adult. He dreams of moving out West.

Happy: Male – 25-35: Willy’s younger son, he has lived in Biff’s shadow all of his life. Happy presents himself as supremely important.

Ben: Male actor – 60-70: Willy’s wealthy older brother, he has recently died and appears only in Willy’s daydreams.

Howard Wagner: Male – 40-50: Willy’s much younger boss, Howard has inherited the company from his Father who Willy idolized.

Pablo Gonzales: Male – 30-40: One of Stanley's poker buddies.

The following roles are CAST with Resident Acting Company. Performers will be considered as possible replacements should any become necessary:

Blanche DuBois: Female – 30-40: Stella’s older sister. An aging Southern belle who lives in a state of perpetual panic about her fading beauty. Her manner is dainty and frail.

Stella Kowalski: Female – 25-35: Blanche’s younger sister, married to Stanley, she is forthright and unapologetic about the nature of her relationship with her husband, and although she loves her sister, she is pragmatic and refuses to let anything come between her and Stanley.

Eunice Hubbel: Female – 30-45: Wife of Steve, she and her husband own the apartment building where Stella and Stanley live. She is a no-nonsense, practical woman.

Nurse: Female – 45-60: Sometimes called “matron”, she is strict and harsh.

Stanley Kowalski: Male – 25-35: A rather common working man, his main drive in life is sexual. He is a former master sergeant in the engineer corps and faces everything and everybody in his life with a brutal realism.

Harold Mitchell (Mitch): Male – 30-40: Stanley’s friend who went through the war with him, Mitch is a deeply sensitive and compassionate man. He is attracted to Blanche from the start.

Steve Hubell: Male – 35-45: Married to Eunice and Stanley’s poker buddy. He and Eunice are constantly arguing.

A Doctor: Male – 55-70: An employee at the state mental institution, he is calm and professional toward Blanche and is able to comfort her.
