Description:
On a stage filled with books, wings and spelling bees, Eleemosynary weaves past and present to examine the relationship of three singular women: willfully eccentric Dorothea; her brilliant and estranged daughter, Artie; and Echo, Artie’s bright and sensitive daughter. Tragedy brings them together after years of separation, forcing them to look into their past for a key to their future. A contemporary script by one of America’s finest playwrights.
NOTE: All roles demand flexibility of body and playfulness of mind. These women are smart and enjoy testing each other.
Seeking:
DOROTHEA
50s. A woman of some means. Strong-willed, eccentric, passionate. Loving, but with the steamrolling of a skilled manipulator.
ARTIE
30s. Dorothea’s daughter. Brilliant and angry, with a cold nature that hides her desire to be accepted and loved.
ECHO
15, can be played by an actor in her late teens+ as long as they can believably play a 15 year old. Artie’s daughter, Dorothea’s granddaughter. A girl of exceptional intellect and sensitivity, she also possesses her mother’s determination and her grandmother’s cunning.
