Miller Mississippi: Wyly Studio Theatre

In the South, tradition is sacred and change is slow. So when the Civil Rights movement comes to Jackson, Mississippi, it’s in for a brutal fight. Spanning the 1960s and '70s, Miller, Mississippi tells the story of one family that falls apart as the country attempts to come together. In the classic Southern Gothic tradition, the world premiere of this tragic new play will stun minds and break hearts, as the personal and political combine to bring about the Miller family’s undoing.

A Christmas Carol: Wyly Theatre

Tis the season to be jolly, when the family-favorite, holiday production of A Christmas Carol returns to the Wyly Theatre. In this delightfully re-imagined take on Dickens’ enduring classic the audience is surrounded by the actors, with magical ghosts flying above, scary ghosts bursting out of the floor, and snow falling on everyone. Full of traditional Christmas hymns and songs in fresh, toe-tapping musical arrangements, joyful bursts of choreography, and eye-popping special effects, A Christmas Carol is Dallas’ favorite “must-see” holiday tradition.

TIME: Like, now. And all scenes take place during the night time, after work hours.

PLACE: An office in a Film Studio. One of those generic itinerant writer's offices in the writer's building where coat after coat of paint covers up years of nail holes and career disappointment. The place has seen decades of bad writing, receding hairlines and frantic all-night writing sessions.

When Lucia, a young Mexican born novelist, begins her dream career as a television writer in L.A, she finds herself much more comfortable with the only other Latino around, one of the janitors, than with anyone in the writers’ room. This new comic-drama by Tanya Saracho, a writer for HBO’s Girls and ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder, poses tricky questions about identity and community, as Lucia struggles to bridge the distance between where she came from and where she’s going.

CHARACTERS:

LUCIA: 28, Mexican-born, acculturated. When in Mexico one would call her a Fresa but here, she's just an Americanized Mexican who navigates the code switching between Spanish and English as well as the rest of her (globalized) generation. (This is the Tuitear and Googler Generation.)

ABEL: Early 30's, born in the U.S. Mexican-American but quite Mexicanized. Born and raised in LA, proud of his Mexican heritage. Got a little bit of a chip on his shoulder. Oh, by the way, don't ask about his tattoos because it really bothers him to talk about them, okay? Just don't. He gets grumpy.

Frankenstein: Kalita Humphreys Theater

And after its sell-out run at London's National Theatre, Nick Dear’s electrifying new adaptation, full of shocking twists and turns, is sure to keep audiences on the edge of their seats as it brings Frankenstein (and his monster) to life.

CHARACTERS:

Victor Frankenstein--cast

Creature---Victor Frankenstein's creation, brought back from the dead. He is a true innocent, abandoned and left to protect and feed himself, he learns the brutality of man in vivid ways. He ultimately searches for his creator to ask for a mate, created as he was, and is willing to kill to make it happen.

Gretel---a prostitute who encounters the creature and survives

Gustav---a homeless vagabond who lives by his wits and encounters the creature

Klaus----the same as Gustav

De Lacey--a kind middle-aged blind man (once middle class and a professor) who now lives poorly in a rural area. He teaches the creature to read and shows him kindness and affection

Felix---Delacey's son, forced to hard labor by circumstances and protective of his Father--married to Agatha

Agatha---Felixs wife and beloved daughter in law to De Lacey. She is hard working and resilient.

Female Creature--A beautiful woman built by Frankenstein to accompany the creature.

Elizabeth Lavenza-- Victor's fiance', a beautiful and thoughtful woman in her mid 20's. She has grown up with Victor, she is like a family member to the Frankenstein's, but knows nothing of Victor's experiments with re-animation. She is well educated and well-spoken, kind, but innocent.

Monsieur Frankenstein---Victor's Father and the patriarch of the family. He is in his 70's, aristocratic and poised. He too knows nothing of Victor's experiments and cannot understand his mood swings.

William Frankenstein--Victor's much younger brother who is beloved by the family. Smart and outgoing, he is the apple of his elderly father's eye and almost like a son to Elizabeth.

Ewan--a Scottish laborer who helps Victor secure parts for his experiments. He is young, superstitious and scared.

Rab--Older Scottish laborer who helps Victor secure parts for his experiments. He is tough, pragmatic and a bit desperate.

Following the success of DTC’s 2016 production of All the Way, The Great Society continues the story of Lyndon B. Johnson’s turbulent presidency in the second part of Robert Schenkkan’s epic theatrical event. While the president fights a “war on poverty” at home, his war in Viet Nam begins to spiral out of control. Besieged by political enemies, Johnson desperately fights to pass civil rights legislation and some of the most important social programs in American history, even as the country turns against him and descends into chaos. Filled with a cast of legendary characters—from Martin Luther King, Jr. to Bobby Kennedy and Richard Nixon—The Great Society is an exhilarating examination of power, morality and change.

As he weighs the terrible choice he must make, certain of the devastating cost of either path, Houston tells Jeff Hamilton (his office clerk and slave) of a time when he, and the Union itself, stood trial. This searing, world-premiere drama presents the true story of some of America’s most famous leaders—Andrew Jackson, Francis Scott Key, and John Quincy Adams, among others—and one man’s struggle with what it means to be brave in the land of the free.
