BRIGID BLAKE: Female, 26, the younger daughter of the Blake clan, well-meaning but often impractical and dreamy; she has recently moved in with Richard and turned her back on Catholicism, much to the chagrin of her parents; she is half-heartedly pursuing a career in music and attempting to live out her perception of a sophisticated adult lifestyle.

FIONA MOMO BLAKE: Female, 79, Erik's mother; Irish-American Catholic. In the throes of dementia for the past four years; most of her speech doesn't make sense and is repetitive, although her gibberish may be related to what she senses is going on around her; occasionally prone to wild outbursts of rage; much beloved by all members of the family for the loving person she once was.

RICHARD SAAD: Male, 38, American with at least one parent of Middle Eastern Descent) Richard is the live-in boyfriend of Brigid, 26. A worldly wise graduate student, Richard comes from a wealthy family and has never wanted for anything; despite their age difference, he truly loves Brigid and yearns to be accepted by her family.

CHARLIE LUTHER MASON: Male, 18. Bill & Sherri's son, a senior at Hillcrest. Precocious and intelligent. His anger can overtake him, but he doesn't lead with it. At his core, he's a sweet kid. Like lots of kids his age, he can quickly become a devout believer in newly adopted philosophies.

GINNIE PETERS: Female, Late 40's-Early 50's. very liberal, WASP, stay-at-home mom, her son is Charlie's best friend, and she is one of Sherri's closest friends. Unlike Sherri, who has mastered work-life balance, Ginnie's easily overwhelmed, even as she has much less on her plate.

ROBERTA: Female, Mid 60's-Early 70's. Has worked in administration at Hillcrest for many years. She is warm and means well, if also obstinate and stubborn. When she offends, it is unwittingly; her confusion is genuine. The world is changing faster than she can keep up.

WEN CHANG: Male, 43, Chinese, coach of Beijing University's men's basketball team; he is observant and efficient; he favors three pointers over aggressive inside shots; Tim Duncan would appreciate his energy. (his English is formal, but relatively unaccented.)

SAUL: Male, 52, Jewish, coach of University of San Francisco's men's basketball team; he is a shit-talking, shot blocking, washed up Larry Bird.
