Breakdown
Old Man Speerdane
(also plays Vernon, Old Brother Wolf) Caucasian, 50s-60s. Old Man Speerdane is an Appalachian farmer with a strong work ethic. He is a prideful family man that is overly-protective of his son and daughter. He is fiercely loyal and puts his loved ones before himself, but views them as his possessions. His pride sometimes becomes arrogance as he tries to prove himself to others. He has extremely strong faith. As Old Brother Wolf, he is a broken man, a hermit with no capacity for love and no faith. He is bitter and has no desire to be around people. He has great apathy and indifference for those who bother him. He speaks with an Appalachian dialect.
Brother Wolf
(also plays Frank, Rattler Man) Caucasian, 30s. Brother Wolf is a drifter and a preacher. He is a rugged man with a thick skin. But this doesn’t keep him from being a respectful and loving person. He has a keen sense of awareness for those around him and always acts considerately. He is very sly and clever, relying on his wit to get him through dangerous situations. He is restless and constantly craves his next challenge. He has good intentions to help people in need but his sense of importance in the world sometimes borders on self-righteousness and arrogance. He has an inflated sense of his own invincibility. As the Rattler Man, he is manipulative and indifferent to the pain of others. He speaks with an Appalachian dialect.

Grin Dell’s Maw
Role CAST. (also plays Hessie) Caucasian, 50s-60s. Grin Dell’s Maw is a mean, nasty character. She is a shape-shifting demon determined to get revenge. She is cruel and impatient. She is, above all else, incredibly protective of her only son. She loves him as deeply as a demon is capable of love. As Hessie, she is a loving, passionate character. She is deeply spiritual but worries that things will not work out well. She is good at reading people and is very observant. She is a strong mother that wants to teach her son about the world. Hessie has great wisdom and loves to share her life experience with others. She speaks with an Appalachian dialect.
Mabel
Role CAST. (also plays Paula) Caucasian, 20-30s. Mabel is a beautiful young woman. She is fiercely independent and quick to defend herself. She is a fighter and is not easily frightened or intimidated. She is impatient and untrusting of others. Mabel is practical and makes decisions very quickly. Her faith is strong and although she is slow to open up to people, she is a passionate lover. As Paula, she is a deeply hopeful young woman. She believes that everything will work out in the end and sees the best in people. She has strong faith and likes to remind people of the love in the world. She speaks with an Appalachian dialect.
Grin Dell
Role CAST. (also plays Hunter) Caucasian, 30s-40s. Grin Dell is a selfish and greedy character. He is a demon determined to destroy religion whenever he gets the chance. He finds pleasure in other people’s pain and enjoys causing them harm. He is not very bright and believes everything he is told. This means that he is very easily tricked. Gren Dell is very strong and takes great pride in his evil deeds. He has a twisted sense of humor and finds amusement at the expense of others. As Hunter, he is a strong and rugged mountain man. He is a fighter and is eager to show his strength by defending people. He speaks with an Appalachian dialect.
