BREAKDOWN

BROADWAY BOUNTY HUNTER: Musical theatre actress Annie Golden is havin' a rough time of it. As a woman of a certain age who keeps getting beaten out for roles by young, sparkly ingénues, Annie can't seem to catch a break. But after ninjas ambush her apartment, she is pulled into the world of bounty hunting. On her first mission, Annie heads to South America with her partner Lazarus to recover money from a man hiding deep in the jungle, and they end up uncovering a nefarious scheme that could ruin Broadway forever. Inspired by Exploitation movies of the 1970’s and 80’s (Blaxploitation, Kung Fu, etc.), with a score heavy in R&B and Funk (and a splash of 80’s Rock and Roll), the musical follows Annie as she tries to find the inner-strength she needs to save theatre itself and realize her true badass identity as the Broadway Bounty Hunter.

NOTE: Must be comfortable with difficult harmony. Strong dancers and movers preferred.

CAST

SIENNA/MADAM (Alto)
30’s-40’s. Sienna is one of Shiro’s main bounty hunters. She’s a confident, African American woman. A funny, chatty, badass. Skeptical of Annie’s bounty-hunting abilities. The Madame is a perky, (seemingly) friendly woman who is actually the evil head mistress of an army of murderous sex workers. Think Nichelle Nichols in Truck Turner. Must have a strong comedic ability and a fabulous, strong voice. High belting, riffing, all of that. Should be comfortable singing R&B/Soul/Rock. Great dancer a plus. ROLE CAST.

SEEKING

FELIPE/JUNGLE JUNKIE (Baritone)
30’s-40’s. Felipe and the Jungle Junkie are Middle Eastern, Asian, Latino, African-American, or any ethnicity. Felipe is one of Shiro’s main bounty hunters. Tough as nails, but with a slight goofy quality, too. The Jungle Junkie is a drugged-out dude Annie and Lazarus encounter in South America. Should be comfortable riffing and singing R&B/Soul/Rock. Great dancer. Ability with gymnastics/fighting/karate a plus.

CORTNIE JESSICA DAVIES/INDIGO (Soprano 2)
20’s, Cortnie Jessica Davies is a young, Asian-American actress just out of college and ready to take on the world. Think every sparkly, annoying, musical theatre ingénue ever. Indigo is Shiro’s daughter, a bounty-hunting prodigy who’s also a millennial pain-in-the-ass. Should be comfortable singing R&B/Soul/Rock. Great dancer. Ability with gymnastics/fighting/karate a plus.

CLAUDINE MACHINE/JANESSA (Soprano 1)
20’s-30’s. Claudine Machine is an African-American, no-nonsense slap-you-upside-the-head-soon-as-look-at-you bounty hunter. Janessa is an African-American sex worker that Annie and Lazarus encounter in South America. Seductive and scary, a huge presence. The superbad lady version of Audrey II. Strong comedic ability. Should be comfortable singing R&B/Soul/Rock. Great dancer. Ability with gymnastics/fighting/karate a plus.

THE DIRECTOR/SPARK PLUG (Tenor)
Late 30’s-40’s. The director is Middle Eastern, Asian, Latino, African-American, or any ethnicity. He is a slick Broadway director, in the classic 70s/80s film mode. Think Keith David in Requiem for a Dream, John Glover in Scrooged. Spark Plug is the bounty hunter with the biggest heart and the biggest mouth. He’s Middle Eastern, Asian, Latino, African-American, or any ethnicity. Good at what he does, but maybe he’d be even better if he didn’t talk so damn much. Should be comfortable singing R&B/Soul/Rock. Great dancer. Ability with gymnastics/fighting/karate a plus.

FEMALE SWING
Covers characters who are Middle Eastern, Asian, Latino, African-American, or any ethnicity. 20s-30s. Strong dancer a plus. Covers JANESSA, SIENNA, CORTNIE JESSICA DAVIES, INDIGO.

MALE SWING
Covers African American male characters. 30s-40s. Strong dancer a plus. Covers LAZARUS, FELIPE, THE DIRECTOR, SPARK PLUG.
