Breakdown
Actors and Understudies age 18 and over--all ethnicities encouraged--for this World Premiere comedy, that tells the incredible true story of how Billy Wilder and Raymond Chandler wrote the screenplay for "Double Indemnity", invented film noir, and nearly killed each other in the process. Set in Hollywood in the 1940's, it tells the hilarious tale of how two brilliant and infuriating men battled the censors and each other to create a motion picture classic.
Billy Wilder: Male, 35 to early 40's, iconic Hollywood writer/director by way of Vienna - slight Austrian accent. Always restless, confident, womanizing, enjoys martinis. Comic timing a must.
Raymond Chandler: Seeking Understudy (Role cast: Nick Searcy). Male, 50's, legendary mystery writer famous for detective fiction. An American schooled in England, slightly pale, well-educated and buttoned-up, he wears tweed, smokes a pipe and secretly sneaks whiskey from a flask.
Joe Sistrom: Male, mid-late 30's, Producer for Paramount Pictures, solid producer-type, dapper, well-groomed, a worrier with the studio watching his every move. A city guy from Chicago, with much time spent in the New York literary world.
Helen Hernandez: Female, late 20's, Billy Wilder's "Girl Friday" secretary, a no nonsense gal - think Rosalind Russell, Eve Arden or Jean Arthur. She is 1940's chic, a fast talker and has her pulse on the beat of the studio and Wilder's every need.
