Please prepare either a 3-minute monologue OR a 3 minute song OR 16 bars of a song and a 1-minute monologue. Bring sheet music in the correct key; accompanist is provided, but may not transpose.

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

Gleam by Bonnie Lee Moss Rattner. Based “Their Eyes Were Watching God” by Zora Neale Hurston. Dir: Marion McClinton. 1st reh: 12/6/11. Runs 1/4 - 2/5/12.

Janie:

African American character; appears from teens to late 30s over the course of the story. Independent, passionate, strong, searching.

Pheoby Watson:

African American woman, 40s. Janie's best friend. Wise. Narrates Janie's life.

Logan Killicks:

Older African American man. Widower. Plain-spoken farmer. Pious. Demanding.

Jody Starks:

African American man, 30s. Charming, ambitious, slick, a born talker.

Tea Cake:

African American man, 20s. Charming. Passionate. A partner and soul-mate for Janie.

Ensemble (M/F):

African American characters ranging in age from 30-60.
