Equity actors for roles in the BACK TO THE FUTURE National Tour (see breakdown).

The producers and creative team of BACK TO THE FUTURE encourage actors of all races, cultural backgrounds, abilities, and gender identities to audition for all roles.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a video of a brief pop or contemporary musical theatre song OR one of selections provided here:

If submitting via Google Drive, please make sure the privacy settings are set so that we do not need to request access to view. -Please film your audition in front of a clean background, with no backlighting. As much as possible, limit ambient noise including air conditioners and other electronics. We recommend you do not use Bluetooth headphones, as it can sometimes cause a delay in the audio. Use a secondary audio source to play the accompaniment music so that it is audible in the tape.

As part of a pilot program created in the Touring agreement: The employer will accept 126 video submissions from Equity members. Members will sign up online for one of the 126 slots. Only members who get one of the 126 slots will receive a confirmation e-mail with the preparation and submission information. After members' submissions have been viewed, the employer will notify each member who viewed their audition.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

BREAKDOWN

BACK TO THE FUTURE National Tour

SEEKING:

MARTY MCFLY: 5’4”-5’10”. A teenage hero, he is geeky but charismatic and attractive. Excellent rock tenor (sings a sustained C in chest voice). Great sense of comedy and confident mover.

DOC BROWN: Doc ages from his 40s - 60s. A dreamer, who, as the song says, strives to be a winner, even if he doesn’t quite make it. A friend, mentor, and father/uncle figure to the teenager Marty McFly. A showman with a flair for the unexpected. Eccentric and characterful. Has a great sense of comedy with a strong pop rock voice.

BIFF: 20s, 6’+. A local bully who comes from a long line of bullies in Hill Valley, most of whom harassed members of the McFly family. Strong tenor/high baritone (belts to an A). He has an imposing physicality.

LORRAINE BAINES-MCFLY: 18+ to play older (47) and younger (17). The wife of George McFly and mother of Marty. Unhappy and downtrodden in 1985, she has a spunk and zest for life in 1955. Has strong comedy and a strong musical theatre belt with flexibility across the range, (soprano Belt to Eb).

GEORGE MCFLY: 18+ to play older (47) and younger (17). A geek as a teenager in 1955, he has a penchant for science fiction and writes some of his own but never allows himself to share his stories to anyone due to his fear of rejection. As a middle-aged man, he is of low social status. A very strong physical comedian who can hold a tune. Baritone.

GOLDIE WILSON/MARVIN BERRY: 30s - 50s, these characters are Black. Goldie Wilson is the Mayor of Hill Valley in 1985. Marvin Berry is Chuck Berry’s cousin and the lead singer of the headlining band at the 1955 Enchantment Under the Sea dance. An incredible gospel voice. Skilled in vocal improvisation.

PRINCIPAL STRICKLAND/LOU CARRUTHERS/MAYOR RED THOMAS/SAM BAINES: 30s – 50s. To cover various characters in Marty’s present and past, including STRICKLAND: The uptight authoritarian principal at Marty’s high school. May also cover DOC.
