ART will cast some understudies and swings.
All SM positions have been filled.

PREPARATION

Prepare either 1) Uptempo piece from music theater canon or 2) a contemporary monologue focused on direct address or 3) a combo of both. Bring picture and resume.

Ishmael - Non-white male, 20s-30s. Tenor. A depressed wanderer; a dork.

Ahab - White male, 50s+. Baritone/Tenor. A fierce and unshakeable Old Testament patriarch; monomaniacal, ruined, obsessed with vengeance. With a glimmer of sadness. Ideally an amputee.

Starbuck - Non-white female, 20s-30s. Mezzo. Strict and good. The moral compass of the ship.

Stubb - Non-white female, 20s-30s. Alto. Goofy and pragmatic.

Flask - Non-white female, 20s-30s. Soprano. Crude and cruel.

Queequeg - Non-white, non-Pacific Islander, any gender, trans and/or queer. 20s-30s. Tenor or Alto. Outlandish and enlightened.

Tashtego - Black male, 20s-30s. Bass. Strong and cantankerous.

Fedallah - Black male, 20s-30s. Bass. Smart-ass.

Pip - Middle Eastern male, 20s-30s. Tenor. A boyish Beat poet with a very old soul.

Sailor 1/Carpenter - Non-white female, 20s-30s. Soprano.

Sailor 2/Blacksmith - Non-white female, 20s-30s. Soprano.

Father Mapple/Captain of the Albatross/Captain Boomer of the Bachelor/Captain Gardiner of the Rachel - Black female, 40s-60s. Alto. Ancient. Pilot of the living God.

All characters except Ahab and Melville are deliberately cast against their race in the book.
The rest of the cast should include representation of as many different people as possible.
