SMITH (he/him) 35-53, Black, 1970-2021, Amani’s father, storyteller/griot, deeply passionate, a builder/engineer, perhaps a genius, true-hearted, devoted and constant, a lover and romantic. Has the facility to embody poetic language that lives actively in the body in the spirit of Tarell Alvin McCraney or Aleshea Harris; while AMANI is not a musical: a capacity to sing/comfortability with movement is desired.
AMANI (she/her/they/them/demigender) Cisgendered femme, transgender femme, or non-binary femme. 18+ to play 10-27, Black, 1995-, a black girl becoming grown, perhaps a woman dreaming towards more true language. Inquisitive, funny, curious, dreamer, poet, perhaps a genius, plays a range of emotional arcs, while AMANI is not a musical: a capacity to sing/comfortability with movement is desired. Black nonbinary actors and transwomen are encouraged to submit.
DASIA (she/her/they/them/demigender) Cisgendered femme, transgender femme, or non-binary femme. 30-40s, Black, 1972-1997, a narrator, guide, ancestor and spirit, Amani’s mother; perhaps a genius, radiantly beautiful in a holistic way i.e. in mind, body and/or spirit, perhaps in another world something of an ingpnue (but in this one, a ‘round the way girl who was everybody’s favorite), maybe a blend of Regine and Kadijah from Living Single, a capacity to move is essential for this character as in the ancestral plane they use language by circumstance and not by choice; while AMANI is not a musical: a capacity to sing/comfortability with movement is desired. Has the facility to embody poetic language that lives actively in the body in the spirit of Tarell Alvin McCraney or Aleshea Harris. Black nonbinary actors and transwomen are encouraged to submit.
KOFA (they/them) non-binary/non-traditional gender identity, 18+ to play 10-27, Black, 1995-, an astrophysics PhD student who has dreamed of being an astronaut since they were a kid, passionate, questioning, curious, dreamer. while AMANI is not a musical: a capacity to sing/comfortability with movement is desired.
ROBERT RICHARDS/DAVION/LAMAR DAVIS/A SERIES OF MEN (ASOM...) (he/him/his) 18+ to play 13-27, Black, a man. Actors with experience in physical theatre a plus, capacity to embody a range of different characters quickly; while AMANI is not a musical: a capacity to sing/comfortability with movement is desired.
