BREAKDOWN
Inspired by the book and NPR podcast, The Jazz Loft Project, (A)loft Modulation is a new play with music by Jaymes Jorsling. It looks at NYC jazz loft scene of the late 1950’s and its deterioration moving into the 1960’s.
The American Vicarious is a not-for-profit generator of creative content across disciplinary boundaries that aspires to reflect on America’s ideals and realities, and that which unites and divides its people.

Way Tonniver: 40’s. White. Supportive. Historically based on Hall Overton. Pianist, composer, teacher, driven. Ideal actor would play jazz piano
Steve Samuels: 40’s. Any race. Working class who has lost his job. He wants his life to matter.
Skyler: 20’s. White or Hispanic. Prostitute. Fragile yet strong. Curious.
Chip: 20’s/30’s. White. Older than Skyler, but only by a few years. Clean kid from Kansas turned big city junkie. An addict on the prowl.
Reggie Sweets: 30’s. Black. Historically based on Clifford Brown. Drummer. Sincere and naïve, but searching. Playing drums would be a plus, but not necessary.
