From the Alaskan Gold Rush in the 1890sto the Florida real estate boom in the 1930s, ROAD SHOW is the story of men andwomen in late 19th century America willing to take risks to grab their piece ofthe American dream. Spanning 40 years, ROAD SHOW specifically focuses onAddison and Wilson Mizner, two brothers who are constantly looking for the nextway to strike it rich. This quest turns into a test of morality andjudgment for the two brothers that will change their lives in unexpected ways.
ROAD SHOW, from the Stephen Sondheimand John Weidman team that brought us PACIFIC OVERTURES and ASSASSINS, tellsthe tale of American dreamers who scramble for success, identity and love inthe early 20th century. Many believethey are entitled to achieving the American Dream. It is this sense ofentitlement that can lead to a person's disillusionment with a country wheretheir dreams have not come true.
STAGES REPERTORY THEATRE is at 800 Rosine Street, HOUSTON, TX.
Founded in 1978, Stages makes plays and tells stories that invite everyone to live more deeply and love more boldly. The common link throughout our work is a focus on sharing compelling human stories in intimate performance spaces that allow audiences to connect with both the art on stage and the people who help create it. Stages has grown to become Houston’s sixth largest nonprofit performing arts producer overall, and the largest outside of Houston’s downtown theater district. Stages is one of the region’s leading artistic employers, producing an average of 12 productions per year totaling more than 430 performances and welcoming 75,000+ visitors each season. In January 2020, Stages opened The Gordy, a new $35.4 million three-theater venue that will transform how Houston artists and audiences experience theater.
