SHAKESPEARE COMES BACK TO STRATFORDMay 8, 2019 SHAKESPEARE IN THE BAR COMES TO STRATFORD! Valley Shakespeare Festivals wildly popular Shakespeare in the Bar series comes to Stratford for the first time with the Bards wacky comedy, Two Gentlemen of Verona. Join the two titular gentlemen as they blunder and plunder their way through Italy in their pursuit of the sweet Silvia on the evening of Tuesday, June 4th at The Ole Dog Tavern, 2505 Main Street.Valentine and Proteus are best friends until they fall in love with the same girl. Rivalry, shenanigans and mayhem ensue in this raucous comedy by the one and only William Shakespeare as only Valley Shakespeare Festival can do itwith only two actors!Valley Shakespeare Festivals Founder/Executive Director Tom Simonetti (who also writes all the companys adaptations) explainsShakespeare in the Bar is a way of seeing theater in a relaxed atmosphere while still retaining the language of Shakespeare. It's fun, it's intimate, and can sometimes get bawdy--the way Shakespeare wrote it (and would have wanted it!). The Two Gentlemen of Verona is one of Shakespeare's first comedies and it has a lot of inconsistencies so the fun set-up of the bar helps that."In addition to performing in multiple venues in the Valley with their popular Shakespeare in the Bar series, Valley Shakespeare Festival also presents Free Shakespeare in the Park every July in Sheltons Veterans Memorial Riverwalk Park and tours to senior centers, homeless shelters, libraries, and schools making theater accessible to all.Mr. Simonetti is so excited that Valley Shakespeare Festival is able to bring Shakespeare back to the residents of Stratford as we continue our 7th Season in the Lower Naugatuck Valley".The Ole Dogs Happy Hour Drink Specials and Bar Bites Menu will be available for purchase before and during the event.Doors open at 6:00 pm, performance begins at 7:00 pm. Admission to the event is $25 per person in advance. Tickets are available for purchase at www.vsfestival.org or by calling 203-513-9446.Valley Shakespeare Festival is a nonprofit professional theater company dedicated to bringing free and low-cost theater to the communities of the Lower Naugatuck Valley
