WORLD PREMIERE COMEDY! Both hilarious and poignant, WHAT WE LOOK LIKE is the story of the Hodges - a black family that has recently moved to a suburban white neighborhood. When the youngest son is asked to draw a family portrait at school, he creates an imaginary white family and the Hodges are thrown into a spiral. Playwright BJ Tindal says, “It’s about images of family and how race intersects with that and the pressures it puts on family units.”

After 60 years of producing live, professional theatre, Dobama Theatre is taking an intermission. Yet, though the action onstage is paused, Dobamaa??s commitment to its vital mission and the community it serves is as active as ever before!
Viewing a new theatrical production is always an intriguing experience. This is especially true if the offering is a musical and has not had many workshops or readings. It is in these venues that the material is tested and adjusted based on reviewer and audience reactions.
Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, author of 'Appropriate,' which is now getting a compelling staging at Dobama, Cleveland's 'off-Broadway theatre,' is noted for writing plays that shimmer in spectacle, theatricality, and melodramatic substance. The African American centers his themes on race in America, white privilege, the ills of capitalism, and the use and abuse of minorities to build the 'American dream.'
