Originally known as the Lepers, the band made their name in the burgeoning punk scene. In1981 the bands debut full-length; Mesh & Lace was released by 4AD. The follow-up After The Snow introduced the hit I Melt With You. The album was especially well received in the USA and the band relocated to New York. The original members reunited in 2009 and started to tour and work on new material. After reforming with original band members and extensive touring, Modern English released their first new album in 30 years, Take Me To The Trees was finally released in 2016. In 2020 The band had planned to tour and play their 40th Anniversary Tour Worldwide, but the global pandemic had different plans. Modern English played the whole After The Snow album virtually online in its entirety throughout 2020. 2021 looks exciting, as Modern English are in the studio working on brand new material.
