The award-winning Teenage Drama Workshop (TADW) offers teens (those going into 7th grade through those just graduating 12th grade) the opportunity to develop skills in the theatre arts in a six-week, conservatory-style, Summer program on the campus of California State University, Northridge.

Our goal is to provide a high level of performing artist education for secondary school students. Young people work alongside theatre professionals, theatre educators and university theatre students who bring their gifts and talents to the program. We offer a safe, inclusive environment for our students to experience the arts in a supportive atmosphere.

Theatre is a process and it’s takes a village (or a small army!) to make it succeed. Along the way, our hope is that the students have learned a bit about theatre but also about collaboration, patience and kindness.

TADW Mission Statement

The Teenage Drama Workshop offers middle and high school students an introduction to the theatre in a university setting, empowering them to learn new life skills and (for some) to contemplate studies or a possible career in this field.

What is Teenage Drama Workshop?

Teenage Drama Workshop (TADW) is a six-week conservatory style program offering teens age 11-18 the opportunity to develop skills in theatre arts. For the past 63 years TADW has been held on the campus of California State University Northridge. During the summer, TADW occupies Nordhoff Hall, home to the Theatre Department in the Mike Curb College of Arts, Media and Communication. Our goal is to teach not only theatre arts but the importance of ensemble and team work through our intensive classes and productions.

Who can participate in TADW?

To participate you need to be age 11-18 and either entering 6th grade in Fall 2020 or having just graduated 12th grade in Spring 2020. While our program is based in the theatre arts, you do not need experience in theatre to participate in TADW. We want energetic and enthusiastic students who are excited to learn about theatre and who want to great summer.
