The Metropolitan Opera Guild Launches First-Ever Online Opera Learning Curriculum

The Metropolitan Opera Guild, a premier arts education organization, today launched the first of its series of Online Learning courses, Libretti and Librettists, exploring the connection between words and music across the operatic art form. The second course, Wagner's Ring: Music, Motifs and Magic, is scheduled to open for enrollment in May.

"The success of The Metropolitan Opera Guild podcast shows a high demand for our programming outside of New York," said Thomas M. Martin, Managing Director, Metropolitan Opera Guild. "With our Online Learning courses, we are pleased to be able to expand our reach to those who wish to take their opera education to the next level, but may not have access to our material in-person."

Libretti and Librettists begins with "Introduction to Operatic Libretto" and is composed of five classes discussing the life and work of Italian librettists represented during The Metropolitan Opera season, including Lorenzo Da Ponte, Salvadore Cammarano, Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica. Throughout the course, participants will learn about the process of adaptation and interpretation of texts within operatic frameworks, and the relationship between text and music in the creative process. Readings, printable handouts, worksheets and listening excerpts focus on the exploration of source materials behind libretto texts and serve to enrich course material.

Registration is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. Once enrolled, Students have 60 days to complete the course, each course is $100.00 For more information, visit https://metguild.thinkific.com/
