Gregory Kunde will sing Samson in the March 16, 19, and 23 performances of Saint-Saëns's Samson et Dalila, replacing Aleksandrs Antonenko, who is ill.

American tenor Gregory Kunde made his Met role debut as Samson last night stepping in midway through the performance. He made his Met debut in 1987 as des Grieux in Massenet's Manon followed by performances as Prince Ramiro in Rossini's La Cenerentola and, in his most recent performance with the company, Arturo in Bellini's I Puritani in 2007. Recent performances include des Grieux in Puccini's Manon Lescaut at Dallas Opera and Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Radamès in Verdi's Aida at Teatro Real in Madrid, and the title role of Verdi's Otello at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. This year he sings Calàf in Puccini's Turandot in Barcelona, Radamès and the title role of Giordano's Andrea Chénier at Vienna State Opera, and Otello at Opéra de Monte-Carlo.

The cast for Samson et Dalila includes Anita Rachvelishvili as Dalila, Laurent Naouri as the High Priest, Tomasz Konieczny as Abimélech, and Günther Groissböck as the Old Hebrew. Sir Mark Elder conducts.

Performances of Samson et Dalila run through March 28, 2019. For further information, please visit metopera.org.
