Carlos Miguel Prieto Returns To The UK In February And April

Carlos Miguel Prieto, Musical America's 2019 Conductor of the Year, returns to the United Kingdom in February and April 2019 for performances with The Hallé Orchestra, The Hallé Youth Orchestra, and the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. From February 14-21, 2019, Prieto will conduct seven performances with the The Hallé Orchestra, including one joint concert with the The Hallé Youth Orchestra. He will return to lead the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (NYOGB) on a three-city tour through London, Birmingham, and Liverpool, April 12, 14, and 15, 2019.

Prieto made his debut with The Hallé in March 2017 with a program of 20th-century works by Revueltas, Copland, Gerhswin, and de Falla. Next month he returns to the orchestra for the first time since his debut in a varied, multicultural program including de Falla's El amor brujo, Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A Major with soloist Sergio Castelló López, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 7. Prieto will lead The Hallé at Bridgewater Hall, the orchestra's home in Manchester, on February 14, 17, and 20, 2019. He then conducts the orchestra in the same program in King George's Hall in Blackburn on February 15, Sheffield City Hall in Sheffield on February 16, and St. George's Concert Hall in Bradford on February 21. On February 20, Prieto will lead The Hallé and The Hallé Youth Orchestra in a special joint performance in Manchester featuring de Falla's The Three-Cornered Hat and Bernstein's West Side Story Symphonic Dances.

Continuing his dedication to music education and the nurturing of the next generation of classical musicians, Prieto returns to the United Kingdom to lead the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (NYOGB) in its Spring 2019 concerts, with appearances at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall in London (April 12), Liverpool Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool (April 13), and Symphony Hall in Birmingham (April 14). Prieto will conduct the NYOGB in a program of works by American and Mexican composers, including Revueltas's Sensemayá, Chávez's Sinfonía india, Gershwin's Piano Concerto with Xiayin Wang, and Copland's Symphony No. 3.

Prieto's commitment to working with younger orchestras is also reflected in his work as Music Director of the Orchestra of the Americas since 2011. Orchestra of the Americas brings together young musicians from South America and North America to perform in summer concert tours. Prieto returns to lead the Orchestra of the Americas through his native Mexico in summer 2019 which follows a critically acclaimed European tour in summer 2018. Prieto will again lead Carnegie Hall's NYO2 , a training orchestra made up of musicians aged 14 - 17 from across the United States. NYO2, which is part of Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra project, includes a performance at Carnegie Hall in summer 2019.

Prieto continues his work in New Orleans as Music Director of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Prieto will conduct several new pieces and masterworks in winter and spring 2019, including Mason Bates' Anthology of Fantastic Zoology and Lera Auerbach's The Infant Minstrel and His Peculiar Menagerie (March 14); Bach's St. Matthew Passion (March 28), Chávez's Sinfonía india, Bernstein's Serenade after Plato's Symposium with Alexandra Soumm, and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 6 (May 9); and all-Russian program featuring Mussorgsky's Prelude to Khovanshchina, Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 with Joyce Yang, and Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring (May 16 and 18).
