The GroovaLottos are a multi-Grammy nominated, powerhouse soul-funk-blues band comprised of veteran, award-winning studio session and touring players and singers. Said to play with their souls instead of their hands, they are a fellowship of musical journeymen on a mission to unlock the spirit and turn every show into a soul-reviving party. The GroovaLottos came together when Cotuit Center for the Arts founder, James Wolf, a former session player for Motown in Detroit, wanted to jam with some of the best blues and jazz players in the area. Meeting keyboardist singer, Mwalim, he also brought along drummer Eddie Ray Johnson. From these jam sessions emerged a band originally called "Double Stuff" and later taking it's name from a play by Mwalim, The GroovaLottos the band quickly emerged as a regional party band. in 2014 they were selected as the inaugural bans for the first gathering of the National Congress Black American Indians in Washington DC, and were selected to open the Gathering of Nations Powwow in New Mexico in 2017, playing in front of 48,000 people.Their debut single, "Do You Mind (IfWeDanceWitYoDates)?" premiered in March of 2016 on the syndicated "Direct From Muscle Shoals" radio show and podcast, landing in the #3 of the Americana/ Indie Blues charts and remained in the top ten for 43 weeks. A year later, The GroovaLottos debut album "Ask Yo Mama" was in rotation on over 400 radio stations worldwide and earned 4 Grammy nominations in Pop and R&B. In 2018 the same album earned two more nominations in R&B and Rock. The GroovaLottos are comprised of founding member, Eddie Ray Johnson on drums and vocals; Richard Johnson on bass; founding member, Mwalim DaPhunkee Professor on keyboards & vocals; and The ZYG 808 on percussion and vocals.
