Do you subscribe to any of the theories?

I always trusted that it was Lee Harvey Oswald, and that he acted alone.

Alec Baldwin believes he was killed in a conspiracy, according to one of his tweets.

What say you?

I don't think we'll ever know. What conspiracy does Baldwin believe he was killed because of?

...though his responses indicate he thought it was something to do with JFK's plan to withdraw troops from Vietnam.

Hate to agree with Alec here but I do. About to start s book written by Chief Dr in ER than. Read the blurb which claims the shot in the throat was definitely an entry wound among other damning statements

Number of shooters: One.

Number of shots: Three.

Number of people who wanted JFK dead: Dozens, maybe hundreds, maybe thousands.

Most agree Lee Harvey Oswald was the primary shooter whose bullet was likely the one that actually killed JFK. There will always be theories as to who put him up to it, whether there was an additional shooter(s) on the grassy knoll or somewhere else etc. We will likely never be 100% certain and there is lots of research to read on it if you are really interested but as a general rule, I tend not to form any opinions about major historical events based on what Alec Baldwin thinks.

President Johnson. The Kennedy brthers used him to win the South and then sidelined him once in office. Rfk was especially ruthless and they hated him. He always wanted to be President after a lifetime as one of the most powerful people in Senate and resented this young newbie from a corrupt family swooping in and stealng his shot

There was no shooter on the Grassy Knoll. The only shots came from Oswald's rifle.

President Johnson did not have him killed.

The Teamsters did not have him killed.

The Mafia did not hire Oswald.

None of his ties to pro-Castro Cubans or the Russian government indicate probability of his having been hired.

President Kennedy would not have wanted his legacy to be a debate over how he was killed. He would want it to be his vision for America.

One of life's biggest mysteries to me is the eagerness of so many people to believe crap over the truth.

I find the whole 'CIA killed him or let him get killed' angle a little bit funny because any book on the history of US intelligence points to the fact that Kennedy **loved** the power involved with the CIA. Timothy Weiner's book Legacy of Ashes details that JFK was not some patsy left to dry by the intelligence community. His greatest sin was possibly how naive and unpolished he was on international affairs.

"..though his responses indicate he thought it was something to do with JFK's plan to withdraw troops from Vietnam. "

After he signed off on the coup plot of Ngo Dinh Diem (granted there was not a lot of evidence he wanted him assassinated) in South Vietnam that very month?

The problem with the some people who believe in the Kennedy conspiracy theories also seem to think JFK himself was this beacon in everything good and was the sacrificial lamb because of it, Baldwin's tweets seem to indicate this angle. JFK got his hands just as dirty in international affairs as Johnson and Nixon. He was not killed because he supposedly stood up to the intelligence community.

I think Oswald was the shooter but I will say his relationship to both Cuba and the USSR sometimes does not feel purely coincidental, although he could have easily acted alone based on his sympathies to those countries. I do know some historians and journalists on the intelligence community who actually think the unreleased USSR files on Oswald probably could bring to light a lot of things.

As Sondheim's Assassins dramatized so beautifully, most of the men and women who committed these acts were deluded themselves, thinking that they were acting on behalf of some larger group, whether it was Booth doing it "for the country" (meaning for the Confederacy) or Squeaky doing it for Charlie.

I believe that most conspiracy theorists are similarly deluded. They're so crazy that they believe that someone crazy enough to be an assassin must be working for a larger group. But sometimes sick crazy people are just that: sick crazy people.

Even if Oswald belonged to a group called "Fair Play for Cuba," it doesn't mean that Cuba arranged for him to commit murder.

Well...but the assassination of Lincoln was, indeed, a conspiracy. Lewis Powell, David Herold, George Atzerodt and Mary Surratt were hung (hanged?) for it. Dr. Samuel 'My Name Is' Mudd ended up in the Dry Tortugas.

I probably shouldn't put this in writing, but I do have a macabre fascination with the Lincoln assassination.

Not to mention the Lincoln conspiracy was supposed to be even more devastating, taking out Secretary of State William Seward and VP Andrew Johnson. Seward was stabbed and Johnson's would-be assassin got drunk and abandoned the plot.

All in all, they were remarkably close to causing a crisis of continuity in the government.
