FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Red Mountain Theatre Company presents the high-flying musical theatre adventure: “Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins.”

This July 10 – August 2, Red Mountain Theatre Company (RMTC) presents everyone’s favorite practically-perfect nanny in the supercalifragilisticexpialidocious musical adventure “Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins.”

Executive Director of RMTC, Keith Cromwell, says the show is packed full of family fun. “We’ve hired ZFX Flying Company to assist with all our stunning stunts: Mary is flying out over the audience. Bert will be dancing up and across the proscenium. He’ll dance upside down and dance on the ceiling. This is a truly fun, fantastic show.”

This adventurous adaptation of “Mary Poppins” features more than dazzling flying stunts, though. Cromwell says RMTC selected the show for its moral lessons, too.

“I think sometimes we can get into a rut of trying to achieve and access more money and work, work, work,” he says. “We can forget the simplicity of spending time with the people who are important to us. Mary drops in on the world, and we think she’s going to be helping the kids, but what she really does is help Mr. and Mrs. Banks realize what they have in their life and what’s important to them.”

That’s important to director and choreographer, and Broadway veteran, Robin Lewis, who returns to his hometown Birmingham to direct “Mary Poppins.” Lewis and his partner recently adopted a daughter, and the whole family will be traveling to the Magic City this summer for the show.

Lewis is a 12-year Broadway and national Broadway touring veteran. He toured with the first national tour of “The Producers” with Jason Alexander and Martin Short in Hollywood. He has toured in “A Chorus Line,” “Hello Dolly,” “Beauty and the Beast,” as well as performances at “The Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall.”

As a kid, Lewis’ mom took him to the Alabama Theatre to watch “Mary Poppins.” Today, he says, “As a busy dad, it’s important to remember to reconnect with family and take time to spend with my little daughter.” The show, he adds, reminds us all what’s important. Plus, “We’re doing magical things,” he says.

Rising star Con O’Shea-Creal, like Lewis, is traveling to Birmingham with his spouse and newborn. “Who are we without family? It’s amazing that I get to share this lifestyle with my wife, who’s also a performer. We’re seeing the world and performing, together.”

O’Shea-Creal toured the U.S. and Canada from 2012 to 2013 portraying Bert in “Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins.” This summer, he’ll be dancing on the ceiling for RMTC’s production. In 2008 Con made his Broadway debut in “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas,” and most recently appeared on Broadway in the revival of “Side Show” at the historic St. James Theater.

Camille Rolla, musical director of RMTC’s sensational run of “Les Miserables” last season, returns for “Mary Poppins.”

As does Kristen Sharp, who portrayed Fantine in RMTC’s “Les Miserables” last season. Sharp returns to RMTC as the practically perfect nanny herself—Mary. Sharp is a performer and mother of twins who says, “I believe family is the rock that holds us together on this earth. Families are defined in many different ways…I believe they are our sounding boards, support systems, our biggest fans, accountability partners, shields and friends.”

To you and your family: Join us this summer for the supercalifragilisticexpialidocious musical adventure, “Mary Poppins.”
