Outside front door tells the quest of the young soldier Beckmann who returns home after three years in the camps in Siberia during the second world war. He discovers a defeated Germany that he no longer recognizes. All have turned the page and there is more than a ghost of the war. Through his gas mask sunglasses, he sees what others want to forget. And when he decides to finish up and flows from the top of the bridge, the river itself rejects.
This is Beckmann summoned to find reasons for living. He then knocks on doors but all close upon him.
It is a powerful and original text written by German author Wolfgang Borchert (1921-1947), than Héloïse Meire, decided to adapt and to stage.
A work that mixes humor and tragedy, the raw reality and fantasy, rage and hope. Out before the door is a piece both allegorical and political, addressing themes such as the responsibility front, power, the collective consciousness, but also the loss, the meaning of life and the death. It leads us to think about existential questions: who is the victim, who is guilty? How to be reborn after the nightmare? How to find its place in our world?
Six comedians carry this poignant cry of a scorned youth. With the poetic complicity of the scenographer Cécile Hupin Héloïse Meire tackles this great tale black and cruel. A highly visual show that invites the Viewer to dive into a captivating story, between reality and hallucination.
