A simple table covered in an oilcloth. A man and a woman are speaking. A couple of farmers recounting their everyday life. A brief moment of immobility, a slight change of position, a change of accent and here is another couple. Another account. Isolation, enslavement to an insidious system of bonuses, the dictatorship of huge food-processing businesses, food becoming ever more mass-produced, the disappearance of local supply chains, strenuous working conditions, difficulties in making ends meet, the growing gulf between this now minority section of the population and the rest: all this and other problems, more or less well-known, are all tackled here.

Himself the son of farmers, in Nourrir l'Humanité c'est un metier, Charles Culot wanted to show the state of the world of small farmers through documentary drama. Rather than a demonstration focusing on the sordid, he has made a true work for the theatre. On stage, Charles Culot and Valérie Gimenez bring to life with a great deal of respect the farmers who they met when creating their show. They themselves sometimes speak via video. The result is right on the nail.

With much decency and conviction, this show manages to be both a fine work of art and a salutary work of awareness-raising. For through the fate of the farmers, here it is the state of our world and that of the world which we are leaving to our children that is being examined.
