For this world premier, the composer Philippe Boesmans, who made his mark on the history of lyrical art in the last thirty years with Reigan, Wintermärchen, Julie et Yvonne, Princesse de Bourgogne, wanted the author and director Joël Pommerat to adapt his play Au Monde – which which we are also presenting in its stage version (see p16) – in order to transform it into the libretto of his new opera. An exceptional collaboration between two of the most important contemporary creators, it allows Philippe Boesmans to invest in a new literary universe after those of Schnitzler, Shakespeare, Strindberg and Gombrowicz, and Joël Pommerat to take on the creation of a second musical project, following on from Thanks to my Eyes (from his play Grâce à mes yeux) devised with the composer Oscar Bianchi.
