The Studio Theatre continues its inaugural season with Jason Robert Brown's THE LAST 5 YEARS. The musical follows the five-year relationship between Cathy and Jamie, from their first date to their divorce. I talked with Whitney Morse (Cathy) about the rehearsal process, her inspiration, and the challenges of telling a story backwards.

CONSTELLATIONS, currently playing at the Mad Cow Theatre, is a beautiful love story that takes place across many parallel universes. The show follows the relationship between Marianne, an astrophysicist, and Roland, a beekeeper, from their first meeting to their engagement and onward, branching out into many possible outcomes. I had the chance to interview real-life couple Gemma and Brett Waldon about the challenges of the show, performing with your spouse, and more!

Van Kaplan is a man of many talents. His producing credits include award-winning Broadway shows such as AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, ON YOUR FEET, EVITA, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN and MATILDA. The THEatre ACCELERATOR utilizes new technology to develop musicals in a unique way. Participants use video conference software to talk with industry experts from around the country. (For more information about the THEatre ACCELERATOR, see my latest post here.) Last week, artists jumped into their first week of virtual workshops. 

???????Can the world of musicals learn something from tech startups? Tim Kashani, who comes from both worlds, thinks so. This is the idea behind Apples and Oranges Studios' THEatre ACCELERATOR. Apples and Oranges Studios has produced Tony award-winning musicals such as AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, MEMPHIS, and HAIR.  

I had the chance to talk with Beth Marshall, Savannah Simerly, Kit Cleo, and Melina Kay from Beth Marshall Presents' THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE at the Garden Theatre.

To start off the new year, The Studio Theatre at the Villages presents Noel Coward's classic, PRIVATE LIVES. Lauren Culver plays Amanda, who discovers on her honeymoon that her ex, Elyot, is staying with his new wife in the adjacent room. I talked with Lauren about the stylized comedy of the play, her character, and presenting this classic to a modern audience. 

This week, I got the chance to talk with Ola Rafalo, Dalton Joseph, Peter Rodrigues, Kyle Knappenberger, and Bryant Williams from Opera Orlando's 'Amahl and the Night Visitors.'

This year, the Dance Theatre of Orlando presents The Nuthouse -- a new holiday tradition. The production reimagines The Nutcracker in an insane asylum. On Christmas Eve, the patients celebrate the holidays and welcome a new inmate, Claire. After overdosing on medication, Claire slips into an alternative reality, envisioning the other patients as characters from the traditional ballet.

This week, I got the chance to sit down with Michael Sakir (Conductor), Vincent Connor (Stage Director), and Dennis Jesse (Dr. Malatesta) from Opera Orlando's production of DON PASQUALE.

I'm just going to come right out and say it: I don't listen to modern music. Because I'm a nerd, I like to listen to classical music, show tunes, and movie scores. So I was extremely excited to see West Orange High School's production of Amadeus.

When it comes to Greek mythology, I'm a total geek. I love the Percy Jackson series, and pour over those huge illustrated mythology books. Not only do I know major gods like Zeus and Aphrodite, but I can name all four gods of the wind and all of the rivers of the Underworld (NERD ALERT). So naturally, I was excited to see these myths come to life onstage at Central Florida Community Arts.
