Benjamin Morris

Composer Ben Morris writes music with a strong sense of groove, a feeling for harmony and timbre, and a passion for unconventional storytelling and world music traditions. A graduate of Rice University and the University of Miami, Morris lived in Oslo, Norway this past year with a Fulbright Grant to study jazz composition. A variety of professional ensembles have performed his music throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Ben received an ASCAP Morton Gould Award, a Downbeat Award, the International Society of Bassists Composition Contest Grand Prize, a NJMEA Composers Award, and the Frost Symphony Composition Award. Ben attended the Aspen Music Festival, Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival, highScore, New Music on the Point, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chamber Music Institute, the International Gugak Workshop in South Korea, and the American Composers’ Orchestra Jazz Composers’ Institute. He interns with film composer Michael Bacon.
