Containing pieces that have been written as early as 1994 as well as pieces that are still being completed, Previews of Departing Attractions is a collection of witty, yet poignant short plays tied together by loss. Over the last few decades, some pieces have come to life through Fronterafest and ScriptWorks, organizations that are both dedicated to playwrights and the development of their new works. For this production playwright Lowell Bartholomee has been commissioned for new work in addition to reworking past pieces specifically for this engagement, strengthening the thread and enhancing the humor behind stories of argumentative astronauts, softball-playing nuns, and many others.The ensemble cast includes Kareem Badr, Zac Carr, Marina DeYoe-Pedraza, David Dubose, Sarah Chong Harmer, Robert Fisher, and Juleeane Villareal.

August 30, 2022Austin Playhouse will present a live screening event of Previews of Departing Attractions by Lowell Bartholomee on Monday, September 19 at 7:30 pm. The live screening event will also include a talkback with Bartholomee and cast members. Previews of Departing Attractions will also be available to stream beginning September 20 thru September 25.

Austin Playhouse is a professional regional theatre, founded in August of 2000. Over fifty of Austin's leading theatre artists, administrators, and volunteers who had worked with Producing Artistic Director Don Toner to build Austin’s State Theatre Company into one of the city’s leading arts organizations, joined him in creating this new professional theatre for Austin. On November 27, 2000 Austin Playhouse was granted 501(c)(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service.
