Doctuh Mistuh Productions, who has brought the ATX such award-winning shows as Heathers, Nevermore-The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe, and Silence! The Musical, returns after a five-year hiatus to present Lizzie, The Musical. In association with the Haymaker Players, DMP will present Lizzie, a rock musical adaption of the grizzly Borden Family murders in 1893 and the subsequent trial of Lizzie Borden.
Lizzie, The Musical, written by Steven Cheslik-deMeyer, Tim Maner, and Alan Steven Hewitt, made its premiere at New York’s Living Theater in 2009. Since then, Lizzie has “swung her axe in over 60 cities in 6 countries,” winning Best Musical honors in numerous cities.
The Lizzie cast features Stella Frye-ginsberg (Lizzie Borden), Leslie Hollingsworth (Emma Borden), Libby Detling (Bridget Sullivan), Maryanna Tollemache (Alice Russell), Madi Sipe (ensemble and understudy), and Jess Workman (ensemble and understudy). The creative team includes DMP’s artistic director Michael E. McKelvey (stage director), Ellie Jarrett Shattles (music director), Glenda Wolfe (costume designer), Sam Chesney (lighting designer), and Angelica Chesney (production stage manager).
The production plays at Austin Playhouse for a three week run, July 14-30.
Austin Playhouse is at 405 W 22nd Street, Bldg 4000, Austin.
Austin Playhouse is a professional regional theatre, founded in August of 2000. Over fifty of Austin's leading theatre artists, administrators, and volunteers who had worked with Producing Artistic Director Don Toner to build Austin’s State Theatre Company into one of the city’s leading arts organizations, joined him in creating this new professional theatre for Austin. On November 27, 2000 Austin Playhouse was granted 501(c)(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service.
