Austin Playhouse is thrilled to close their season with the golden age musical comedy Guys and Dolls from May 26 – June 25, 2017. In the rough-and-tumble world of 1940s New York, con-man Nathan Detroit needs some serious dough to finance a safe place for his famous, floating crap game. When he bets high-rolling gambler Sky Masterson to sweep Save-A-Soul Missionary Sister Sarah Brown off her feet and take her on a dinner date to Havana, Nathan thinks his problem is solved. While Sky woos the wary Sarah, Nathan is trying to stay out of the matrimonial clutches of his longtime fiancée, Miss Adelaide, a chronically ill nightclub performer whose condition is brought on by the fact she’s been engaged for 14 years. Frank Loesser’s toe-tapping show tunes, including “Luck Be a Lady,” “Sit Down, You’re Rocking the Boat,” and “I’ve Never Been in Love Before,” make Guys and Dolls one of the great musical scores in the history of American theatre.

The cast features Jarret Mallon as Sky Masterson, Sarah Fleming Walker as Sarah Brown, Steve Shearer as Nathan Detroit, Boni Hester as Miss Adelaide, Tom Parker as Arvide Abernathy, Scott Shipman as Nicely-Nicely Johnson, Kyle Stephens as Benny Southstreet, Michael Stuart as Big Jule, Samantha Bagdon as Agatha, Connor Barr as Rusty Charlie, Brian Coughlin as Lieutenant Brannigan, Joseph Garlock as Harry the Horse, Bernadette Nason as General Matilda Cartwright, and Lara Wright as Mimi, with Madeline Dennison, Aly Jones, Kaitlin Street, Dylan Gibson, Craig McKerley, and Michael Wheeler rounding out the ensemble.

The play is directed by Don Toner with musical direction by Susan Finnigan, choreography by Danny Herman and Rocker Verastique, set design by Mike Toner, costume design by Diana Huckaby, lighting design by Don Day, and sound design by Joel Mercado-See.
