Winner of the prestigious Blues Music Award (formerly the W.C. Handy Award) for horn in 2018, the beloved bandleader, singer, songwriter and horn-blower born Troy Andrews is a native of the historic New Orleans Trem neighborhood. He got his name when he picked up his instrument at four. By eight, he led his own band in parades, halls and even bars. In his teens, Andrews performed abroad with the Neville Brothers, and fresh out of high school at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts he joined Lenny Kravitz band. Through several Trombone Shorty albums and many collaborations since, Andrews nurtured a voracious appetite for all types of music, with his album Backatown nominated for a 2010 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album.
