Head Over Heels is a jubilant musical comedy that injects a modern twist on a classic story. Adapted from the 16th-century prose romance "The Countess of Pembroke's Arcadia" by Sir Philip Sidney, the musical throws in a generous helping of 1980s pop hits by the iconic all-female band The Go-Go's. This creates a unique mashup of Elizabethan themes with infectious pop melodies. The plot revolves around the royal family of Arcadia, facing a prophecy that threatens their kingdom's very existence. The solution? Embark on a wild journey to rediscover their lost "Beat," the source of their prosperity. Directed by Artistic Director Freddie Ashley, Fun Home dives into Alison's past to trace the sequence of childhood events that made her the adult she is today. In doing so, she initiates a journey of reconciliation with her late father, whose mercurial and secretive personality kept the two apart at the precise moments they should have been closest. This musical of coming of age and coming out tells a tale of what happens when you finally see your parents through grown-up eyes.

Basically, we're all human-sized Marios running from the evil sun and hoping for a brief respite via some magical pipe that takes you to a cool underground cavern where there's lots of unprotected gold. Luckily, our favorite Atlanta stages have offered up a lot of great summer theatre, so at least we have something cool to look forward to.
