AMERICAN IDIOT Comes to Chapman University

The "Green Day classic" AMERICAN IDIOT opens at Chapman University. This spring, Chapman Student Orgs Productions will bring everyone's favorite 2000's rockin' tunes to Chapman for a very short engagement.

AMERICAN IDIOT will be presented in Memorial Hall at Chapman University for only two performances, April 5 & 6, 2019, directed by Casey Johnson, with choreography by MOLLY SHAW, and musical direction by KRISTEN REYNOLDS.

AMERICAN IDIOT features book by Billie Joe Armstrong and Michael Mayer, music by Green Day, and lyrics by Billie Joe Armstrong.

AMERICAN IDIOT tells the story of a band of rebels and misfits as they navigate life outside of suburbia. What was meant to be a tandem trip turns into three solo adventures. While each of the three boys takes a different path, all experience love, heartbreak, addiction, and the struggle to stay driven through systematic disadvantages built by US government.

The concept musical is inspired by and attributes the Grammy award winning album "American Idiot." Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong and Tony Award winning Michael Mayer display each character's own "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" through classic punk rock bangers "Holiday," "Wake Me Up When September Ends," "21 Guns" and more in a single act phenomenon packed with grunge and grit.

This Tony award winning musical will be produced from over five organizations at Chapman University including Chapman On Broadway, The Player's Society, Chapman Dance Alliance, USITT Chapman, and the Coalition of Artistic Students in Theatre (C.A.S.T). This talented cast of eighteen is comprised of all different majors and minors across the university, sharing the goal to tell a story effectively through a magnificent art form. AMERICAN IDIOT at Chapman University will give the opportunity to over fifty students to experience theatre first hand and to share their love for the arts with the community.

Performances of AMERICAN IDIOT can be seen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5th and Saturday, April 6th on the campus of Chapman University in Memorial Hall.
