Prudencia Productions presents RIPPER at The Courtyard Theatre

In London, 1888, a bold young woman reporter desperate to make a name for herself starts tracking a string of gruesome murders. When she finds herself face to face with the killer, they begin a deadly game of cat and mouse. Wickedly playful and deliciously terrifying, Ripper asks how far would you go for the story of the century?

Prudencia Productions, an emerging female-led theatre company, returns with the European premiere of Ripper a play by Jacob Marx Rice, directed/produced by Victoria Hadel, with fight direction by Jack Masefield, produced by Griffin Jenkins and Megan Henson. 

Following a sold out run of The Brontës: A Musical last summer, Victoria Hadel and Megan Henson, the dynamic female duo behind Prudencia Productions, return to the fringe theatre scene with Ripper. 

Director of the play Victoria Hadel says: “Like most true crime enthusiasts,  I’ve always been fascinated by the Jack The Ripper case. The victorians obsession with penny dreadfuls led to more than a million newspapers around the world every day mentioning Jack the Ripper - arguably a basis for our obsession with true crime today.  Trying to decipher the mystery of who Jack The Ripper was through the lens of a female reporter is the kind of story that aligns perfectly with our mission at Prudencia Productions. Above all else, Prudencia Productions champions amazing stories, and strong female characters”

In the European premiere of this New York-originated play, Ripper is a re-telling of the horrifying true crime and the media sensation that made Jack The Ripper a household name. This play is built on a unusual but possible interpretation of the real historical facts, as such, as such, the play is ostensibly the basis for a new theory. Wickedly playful and deliciously terrifying, Ripper asks how far would you go for the story of the century?
