Review: LUCY PEARMAN: FRUIT LOOP, Soho Theatre

Review: LUCY PEARMAN: FRUIT LOOP, Soho Theatre Lucy Pearman is a comedienne that's unfamiliar to me, but after watching their stellar show Fruit Loop the other evening, they are now cemented in my brain as someone very special. The reason I like her so much is because her show feels totally unique to anything that I've seen before.

The story is relatively simple: a person seeks a better life, but struggles to escape. They battle their sense of identity before being brave and stepping into the big bad world. During this narrative there are many kooky figures that appear. Some assist on the journey and others provide obstacles.

If you're a fan of the absurd then this may be the show for you. We have an early bird trying hard to catch the ill-fated worm, as well as some protective grapes and a struggling to hear potato. All of these characters are brought to life in a way that's high energy, captivating and lots of fun.

Pearman is a natural at getting the audience on side. It's a good thing really, as a lot of the piece requires their participation. This is normally something that I detest, however Pearman is so inviting that all you want to do is help her out. She has created such a fun atmosphere, so we're all happy to go along for the ride.

It would be interesting to see someone who doesn't want to play, and to watch how Pearman thinks on their feet in that moment, but that's just a little added bonus for me. Nothing can take away from the attention to detail she places in her craft, and the sheer exuberance radiating from the stage into the audience.

There's lots of laughter during this show and you leave feeling absolute joy. After having such a special evening, I'm going to be eagerly looking out for the next show from this brilliant artist.
