The Edge of the Universe Theater follows up its 2022 Capital Fringe production of Caryl Churchill’s A Number with the work of another British playwright, Nobel Prize winner Harold Pinter’s THE CARETAKER.
On the heels of creating two audio plays during the pandemic (The Marriage Proposal, featuring Kimberly Gilbert, Jamie Smithson and Cody Nickell, and Laughter in the Shadow of the Trees, featuring Sarah Marshall, Holly Twyford and David Bryan Jackson), The Edge of the Universe Players 2 return to in-person producing with Caryl Churchill's A NUMBER.
Theater J and Mosaic Theater, both located in Washington, DC, are collaborating to produce an evening of short Ukrainian plays benefiting Ukrainian charities. The in-person event, consisting of readings of short contemporary plays, will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 8:00 pm at the Edlavitch DC Jewish Community Center (1529 16th Street NW, Washington DC). The evening will raise funds for Ukrainian causes and highlight the plight of artists in Ukraine while showcasing the plays. Some of these plays were commissioned, written, and translated just in the last few weeks, and are based on what the playwrights are currently experiencing in their war-torn country.
The question of privacy and personal autonomy is a vital theme especially in these stress-filled and autocratic times but, the current offering at the Mosaic Theater Company of DC the play Private misses the mark. Though it is commendable that this play’s themes are explored, the dramatic impact of the play never shines through.
