Rejoice! A Festivus (for The Rest Of Us) Cabaret Comes To Vancouver

Festivus is a secular holiday "traditionally" celebrated on December 23rd as an alternate to the pressures and commercialism of the holiday season. Originally created by writer Daniel O'Keefe, Festivus entered popular culture after it was made the focus of a 1997 episode of Seinfeld called "The Strike" which O'Keefe's son Dan O'Keefe co-wrote. The non-commercial holiday celebrations, as depicted on Seinfeld, include a Festivus dinner, an unadorned aluminum Festivus pole, airing of grievances, Feats of Strength and declaring "Festivus miracles" (which are actually easily explained events).

Fabulist Theatre's version will be an homage to this idea, but instead of dinner we invite our friends and loved ones to gather around with a drink in hand to hear the airing of our grievances via the performances of song, storytelling, slam poetry and stand-up. The Feats Of Strength will be audience participation games to win the coveted "Strongest Feat" award. Holiday photos will be made available with a Festivus founder and host Frank Costanza (portrayed by Doug Thoms aka The Purrfessor) and the Aluminum Pole. There will also be a Festivus carol singalong and a non-denominational Ugly Sweater contest.

Featuring performances by Burgandy Brix, Quinn Pickering, Sasja Smolders, An Affair of Honor, Chronfused, Anita D, Michael Gnansounou (The Rocky Horror Show), Elizabeth Irving ( Arts Club and Patrick Street Productions) , the cast of multi-award winning Fringe hit "Hysteria" and more!

Fabulist Theatre is a registered not-for Profit society founded by Mary Littlejohn and Damon Bradley Jang in 2016. Since its beginning, the society has produced two major musicals (Once On This Island, Songs For A New World), original staged readings (Hearts and Stones), published works (Dim Sum Diaries by Mark Leiren-Young) and cabarets (Our Time: An Empowerment Cabaret). The company believes in celebrating diversity, promoting marginalized performers and giving a platform to seldom-heard voices along with well-established ones, as well as giving back to charities.
