Metta Theatre Will Host a Free Hip Hop Workshop and Offers a Chance to Perform at the Belgrade

This Spring, acclaimed Production Company Metta Theatre invite you to discover The Wind in the Willows as you've never seen it before in their brand new hip hop musical, In The Willows.

Showing at the Belgrade Theatre 20-23 March 2019, this lively, fast-paced adaptation brings the classic story of Toad, Rattie and Mole bang up to date with vibrant characters, an original soundtrack by Kieran Merrick and Pippa Cleary, and dynamic choreography by acclaimed artist and Street Dance 3D star Rhimes Lecointe. The production will also feature integrated British Sign Language, providing a unified live experience for D/deaf and hearing audiences alike.

Ahead of the show's arrival in Coventry, Metta Theatre is reaching out to young people in the region to take part in a FREE hip hop dance workshop, covering everything from House to Waacking in a fun, friendly and informal environment. Even more excitingly, up to ten participants in the workshop will have the chance to appear on stage in the production at their local theatre, as part of a community chorus.

Taking place at the Belgrade on Tuesday 8 January, the 90-minute workshop will be guided by Sheilah Attah (Bird Gang), one of the UK's leading hip hop dance teachers. Young people of all abilities and experience levels are welcome to sign up, including absolute beginners, but booking is essential.

Transforming Kenneth Grahame's well-loved tale into a thrilling new production, Metta Theatre's and Exeter Northcott Theatre's In The Willows is written and directed by Poppy Burton-Morgan (Jungle Book, UK & International tour) with music by award-winning composer Pippa Cleary (The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, Chocolate Factory; Prodigy, St James Theatre) and ground-breaking hip hop composer Keiran Merrick, and choreography by Rhimes Lecointe (Associate Choreographer for Zoo Nation and Artistic Director of Boadicea).

Metta Theatre's free hip hop workshop takes place at the Belgrade Theatre from 6-7.30pm on Tuesday 8 January. For details and to sign up, visit www.mettatheatre.co.uk/workshops.
