BEOWULF lands in NYC next week

AUTOJEU THEATRE of the UK, in association with SoHo Playhouse's FRINGE ENCORES series, presents the US premiere of BEOWULF at SoHo Playhouse. This age-old tale is brought to life as never before in a physical, musical, and very funny play co-conceived by London artists Sam Gibbs and Pete Buffery. The limited New York engagement will play the Huron Club at SoHo Playhouse, 15 Vandam Street, New York, NY 10013. Performances begin Tuesday, December 11th and continue through Sunday, December 16th. Tickets are available at www.fringeencores.org.

An epic that inspired the human fascination with telling tales, entertaining over campfires and captivating imaginations. UK's Autojeu Theatre brings to life one of history's oldest and most famous tales. BEOWULF, the hero of the Geats comes to the aid of the King of the Danes in a heroic epic that will live on forever.

We follow Beowulf on his 50-year journey from young warrior to revered King. See him stride, swim, fight and flounder in this physical, musical, (and VERY funny) stand-up tale. This is Beowulf as you have never seen him. A stand-up-saga adventure. Riotously funny.

In 2013 in a small room in North London, Pete Buffery and Sam Gibbs met and 'jammed' for two hours over BEOWULF. Gibbs provided the story and physical telling of the tale, and Buffery all the music. After just four rehearsals, they premiered the show at Theatrefest in Barnstaple in southwest England in 2013. It has grown and developed, touring nationally and internationally to Paris, Prague (nominated for an Inspiration Award) and Limerick. The New York premiere at Fringe Encores will mark the fifth country for this production.

Sam Gibbs plays 14 different characters to tell this (Comedy!) epic, and Pete Buffery performs his original music and sound for the production.

BEOWULF plays the following schedule through December 16th:

Wednesday, Dec. 12; 7pm (talkback follows performance)

Thursday, Dec. 13; 9pm

Friday, Dec. 14; 9pm
