'Kafka on the shore’ is an internationally bestselling novel by Japan’s most widely read and highly regarded author, Haruki MURAKAMI. The book features a 15-yearold boy named Kafka, who runs away from his home in Tokyo, to escape a troublesome father and dark prophecy which he learns of. Kafka’s story soon meets with the elderly visage of Nakata, whose hunt for a lost cat takes him on the road for the first time in his life. With its blend of magical realism, suspense, humor and sex, it was long regarded a great challenge for anyone who attempt to dramatize this novel. Now, celebrated director Yukio NINAGAWA realizes his long-held ambition to stage it. Using a series of multi-layered sets, NINAGAWA’s magnificently visualized staging of this epic will fascinate the audience.
