This weekend the National Tour of American Idiot had a very Canadian feel as the three main 'Idiots' were played by three Canadian boys when Gabriel Antonacci stepped into the role of Johnny (usually played by Van Hughes). BWW was thrilled to go back to the show in order to see three hometown boys rock out together.

Based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the hit 2001 MGM movie of the same name starring Reese Witherspoon, this award-winning Broadway sensation previews January 18, opens January 27, and runs through March 25 at The Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire, IL. LEGALLY BLONDE will star Chelsea Packard (Broadway: WICKED and PROMISES, PROMISES; First National Tour of WICKED) as 'Elle', Cole Burden (25th Anniversary National Tour of LES MISERABLES) as 'Warner', and David Larsen (Broadway: AMERICAN IDIOT, BILLY ELLIOT and GOOD VIBRATIONS) as 'Emmett'. The production will be Directed and Choreographed by Multi-Jeff Award Winner Marc Robin.

Variety reports today that despite an absence of movie musicals in multiplexes around the country this past year, 2012 is poised to usher in a record number of musical adaptations on the big screen. The season of musical films will begin with Joyful Noise (Warner Brothers), starring Dolly Parton, Queen Latifah and Broadway's own Jeremy Jordan, set for release on January 13. Throughout the year, musical lovers can expect cinematic renditions of the highly anticipated Rock of Ages (June 1), starring A-listers Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin and more, and Les Miserables (December 7) with the likes of Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Taylor Swift, Amanda Seyfried, Broadway's Aaron Tveit and others.

The much-anticipated National Tour of Green Day's American Idiot kicked off in Toronto last night, and BWW was on hand to capture photos of the entire event. It was a very special evening as Toronto celebrated the four Canadians who were making their return to 'Broadway North' with the production, which will run for three weeks before hitting the road to tour the United States.

Created by Jay Kuo and Lorenzo Thione with music and lyrics by Kuo, the original musical tells the story of a Japanese American family forced into an internment camp during World War II. Directed by Stafford Arima (Carrie, Altar Boyz, West End premiere of Ragtime), the production features musical direction and arrangements by Lynne Shankel (Cry-Baby, Company) and choreography by Christopher Gattelli (Newsies, Godspell, South Pacific). A new production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's CINDERELLA -- with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, a new book by Douglas Carter Beane and original book by Oscar Hammerstein II -- is aiming for an opening next season on Broadway following a workshop production in April 2012, it has been announced by producer Robyn Goodman, who will produce the musical along with Aged in Wood Productions.

Even before the show opened last night Off-Broadway, producers Barbara Broccoli, John N. Hart Jr., Patrick Milling Smith, Frederick Zollo, Brian Carmody, Michael G. Wilson, and Executive Producer Robert Cole announced today that ONCE, the new musical based on the 2007 Academy Award-winning film, will play Broadway's Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre this spring.
