Theatre Rhinoceros presents Shakespeare’s PERICLES, textually queered and performed outdoors on the beautiful grounds of Yerba Buena Gardens, per Theatre Rhinoceros tradition. In one of Shakespeare’s most misunderstood comedies, prince Pericles guesses a dreadful secret of Antiochus and must flee his assassins. A desperate adventure of love, lust, and death ensues – an adventure that will take Pericles, his wife, and his daughter to the corners of the earth and nether reaches of self-discovery, remorse, and forgiveness. Shakespeare’s obscure romance is directed by Theatre Rhinoceros’ Executive Artistic Director John Fisher as part of the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival. The performance begins at the Sotne Stage and travels all over the gardens.
Join Theatre Rhinoceros for the world premiere of 'Group Therapy' by Kheven LaGrone. This thought-provoking play explores the experience of aging in the LGBTQ+ community. Running from November 9th to December 3rd, 2023. Don't miss this engaging and powerful production.
Directed by Gendell Hing-Hernández, CITIZEN opens on October 21. This Word for Word and Z Space production tells the tale of Salvador, born in the U.S. and raised in Mexico, the son of an American Indian mother and a Mexican father.

In 2017 The Rhino celebrated its 40th Anniversary as the longest-running LGBT theatre in the world. In 2019 we were invited to march in the Resist Contingent of the San Francisco Pride Parade (right after the Dykes on Bikes!) in recognition of our long-running commitment to activism, social justice and visibility. Our history continues as we have landed at Spark Arts (in the heart of Castro!,) where all Rhino shows are produced.
