(Novato, CA) God of Carnage (originally in French Le Dieu du carnage) by Yasmina Reza is the second play of Novato Theater Company’s 2018/2019 season. It is about two sets of parents, one of whose child has hurt the other at a public park. The parents agree to meet to discuss the matter in a civilized manner. However, as the evening goes on, they become increasingly childish, resulting in the evening devolving into chaos. Originally written in French, the play was a success. It has since been translated into English, and has enjoyed equal acclaim in both London and New York.

God of Carnage will be performed at Novato Theater Company (NTC) from October 26 to November 11, 2018, directed by Terry McGovern and produced by John Griffin.

Roman Polanski directed the 2011 film adaption of God of Carnage, whose title was shortened to Carnage. The film was shot in Paris, but the play's Brooklyn setting is retained in the film. Jodie Foster and John C. Reilly play Veronica and Michael, while Christoph Waltz and Kate Winslet play Alan and Annette. (Characters names changed in film).

Director Terry McGovern explains, "The reason I’m excited to be directing this play is because it’s a brilliantly written, comedic look at parenting adolescent boys, all of whom do crazy things. They argue, they fight; they behave not at all like we've raised them to behave. The parents are just like everyone else who raises kids in a fast-paced, aggressive world. And we’ve assembled a cast of wonderful actors, who understand the pace, the nuance and innuendo of upper middle class life in America."

Bios:
Terry McGovern, of Petaluma, returns to Novato Theater Company to direct God of Carnage, his fourth directorial offering for NTC.
In 2010 he won Best Director of a Comedy by the Bay Area
Theater Critics for Humble Boy. The Next year he directed the classic,
The Petrified Forest by Robert Sherwood. Last year, it was the family epic, August: Osage County.

Ken Bacon, of Novato, returns to play Alan in God of Carnage.
His last show at NTC was “August, Osage County” performed in
NTC’s 2016-2017 Season.

Heather Shepardson, of Novato, returns to play Veronica in God of Carnage. Her last show at NTC was “August, Osage County” performed
In the NTC 2016-2017 Season.

Marty Lee Jones , of Santa Cruz, plays Michael and is thrilled with his
Novato Theater Co. debut. He recently has been seen at Hillbarn
Theater's production of West Side Story and also @ SF Playhouse “Born Yesterday” and “The Christians”.He comes to us from the Santa Cruz theater community.

Irene Adler and appearing in the iconic Wicked Lit production. Having
grown up onstage as a child opera singer and in Terry McGovern’s acting
workshop, Jena is thrilled to work with Terry again almost a decade later.
