Never before has a pea been given so much weight; Once upon a Mattress is a witty retelling of the classic tale which pits a princess against a pea. The fanciful, medieval kingdom ruled by Queen Aggravain and King Sextimus the Silent has a problem: no one may marry until their own son, Prince Dauntless is happily wed. Things are not so simple, the Prince has princesses lining up around the block to petition for his hand. The real problem is the manipulative and controlling Queen Aggravain’s desire to keep her son, mute husband and the rest of kingdom firmly under her thumb. Not to worry, this topsy-turvy tale’s one-of-a-kind Princess, Winnifred the Woebegone, is to the rescue.
