James and the Giant Peach - The Musical opens at Utah Childrens Theatre on April 27thThe hit musical by Pasek and Paul (Oscar, Grammy, Golden Globe, and Tony Award winners) is sure to be a family favorite! April 10, 2019-- South Salt Lake, UTIf you like The Greatest Showman, youll love James and the Giant Peach! Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are the masterminds behind both productions. In addition to winning the 2018 Golden Globe for Best Original Song in a Motion picture for This is Me (The Greatest Showman), they also won the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for City of Stars (La La Land). They are also known for Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway, which won 6 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Score, and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. Upcoming projects include the live action Aladdin and Snow White movies with Disney. Now families have the opportunity to see James and the Giant Peach - The Musical, a lively and touching play by the same duo. From beautiful ballads like Everywhere That You Are, the vaudeville feel of Right Before Your Eyes, to the cool jazz of Money on that Tree, the songs in James and the Giant Peach are exciting and catchy. Ricky Parkinson, who plays the narrator Ladahlord, agrees. Pasek and Paul have such a fun, eclectic style. The songs catch and hook you in. I sing them constantly in my mind. The show is very vaudevillian--such a fun throwback. Parkinson also believes the story will capture your heart. This show is about finding family that you may or may not be related to, but that help you grow and find strength.Eli Stebbing plays James Henry Trotter, the orphan who is sent to live with his abusive aunts. He finds happiness when a bag of magic leads him on an adventure in a giant peach with newfound friends: human-sized insects with oversized personalities! After the peach rolls into the ocean, the group faces hunger, sharks, and plenty of disagreements. Thanks to James quick wit, the group learns to live and work together as a family. Stebbing feels like James loves his new friends just as much as he loved his old family. He still remembers his parents and still loves them, but now he feels a happiness because hes with these super nice insects and loves them, too. Theres a line in the song Welcome Home. The Ladybug says, They always thought of James as their first born son, and I think he feels like Ladybug and Grasshopper are his adoptive parents. I think its going to be an incredible show! The music and magic of James and the Giant Peach may be experienced every weekend from April 27th through May 25th at Utah Childrens Theatre, located at 3605 S. State Street in South Salt Lake. Shows are Fridays at 7:00 pm and Saturdays at 1:00 pm and 4:30 pm. Tickets may be purchased anytime online at www.uctheatre.org or by calling 801-532-6000.
