Carmen is now playing at Bolshoi in Russia. The opera features a libretto by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy after the novel of the same name by Prosper Mérimée.

On Wednesday 16 March, Russian prima ballerina Olga Smirnova has decided to join Dutch National Ballet – where she will start immediately and be welcomed with open arms.

Due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, conductor Tugan Sokhiev has resigned from the Bolshoi Theatre and Orchestre National du Capitole in Toulouse.

A memorable and witty show based on Australian John Misto's play 'Madame Rubinstein' and staged by Yevgeny Pisarev, was premiered in the Moscow Pushkin Drama Theatre. This performance is hinged on the main character brilliantly impersonated by a renowned Russian actress Vera Alentova (she has gained great acclaim for her movie role in 'Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears' (1979) which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1981).

Master and Margarita is playing at Bolshoi tonight, February 17, 2022. The production features a libretto by Edward Clug after Mikhail Bulgakov’s novel of the same name.

Bolshoi will present the premiere of the Evening of one-act ballets: 'Dancemania'; 'Les Saisons'; 'Made in Bolshoi' at the New Stage of Bolshoi Theatre on 7 July 2022.

New production by director François Girard and conductor Evan Rogister promises to be an extremely majestic spectacle. Two worlds, Christian and pagan, are opposed to one another in this performance in the style of a popular genre of fantasy.

Traditionally, at Christmas time, the Chamber Theatre presents one of the most unusual performances by Pokrovsky – The Rostov Mystery. This production, which is based on The Comedy on Christmas Day by Metropolitan Demetrius of Rostov, a text from the 18th century, was first shown in 1982 and has remained in the repertoire ever since. There will be two performances as part of the festival – on the 7th and 8th of January.

The Seagull is now playing at Bolshoi in Russia. Performances run through December 16.

This year Chekhov International Theatre Festival in Moscow welcomed ÉLECTRE DES BAS-FONDS (Electra in the Underworld) - the show initially premiered in legendary Théâtre du Soleil in 2019 and directed by an acclaimed actor and theatre director Simon Abkarian. Abkarian is a former member of the famous Ariane Mnoushkine's theatre company. In his production the director revisited Greek mythology, mixing several myths about Electra and Orestes, and produced an original story representing different cultures and traditions, showing actors in Indian costumes, using Japanese music etc. Those unexpected eclectic pieces made the show more unconventional and universally conceivable. In a short interview Abkarian underlined that this is a contemporary version of Greek tragedy. The director rewrote the whole story, it is no more about revenge and more about sacrifice and survival in a man's world.

Swan Lake is performed at Bolshoi this week. Performances run November 16 and 17, 2021. The world premiere took place at La Comédie de Clermont-Ferrand on October 7, 2020. 

Coppelia will be performed at Bolshoi this weekend. Performances run 13 and 14 November 2021.

Stage Russia is set to return for its 5th season this November with a line up of comedies and dramas staged and performed by Russia's best and brightest artists. The new season, factoring in the ongoing pandemic, will be offered utilizing a hybrid approach of in-cinema presentations along with a variety of streaming options.

Isadora Now is a one-act ballets program by Viviana Durante Company (Great Britain), presented by DanceInversion International Festival of Contemporary Dance.

Tosca is now playing at the Bolshoi in Russia. Performances will run through 17 October. Tosca features a libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica, and is based on Victorien Sardou’s play of the same name.

The man who passed away, Yevgeny Kulesh, was in his late 30s, and was working as an extra in a performance of the opera 'Sadko' by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. He was crushed by a piece of scenery as a backdrop descended to the stage. The show came to an immediate halt, and the performers exited the stage while the curtains closed.
