- Audition Notice -We are seeking a cast for this fun show! If you are interested in auditioning, click over to the Chill Bucket Website for more info! Submissions are being accepted through August 17th. Originally broadcast as part of The Mercury Theatre On the Air series in 1938, the broadcast was received as factual and caused brief hysteria among some NY/NJ residents. The radio program begins as a simulation of a normal evening radio broadcast featuring a weather report and music by "Ramon Raquello and His Orchestra" live from a local hotel ballroom. After a few minutes, the music begins to be interrupted by several news flashes about strange gas explosions on Mars. An interview is arranged with reporter Carl Phillips and Princeton-based Professor of Astronomy Richard Pierson, who dismisses speculation about life on Mars. The musical program returns temporarily but is interrupted again by news of a strange meteorite landing in Grover's Mill, New Jersey. Phillips and Pierson are dispatched to the site, where a large crowd has gathered. The story continues ending with an epilogue from Orson Welles. --www.chillbucketproductions.comChill Bucket Productions is a theatrical group dedicated to advancing classic theatre and showcasing our history to inform our present, bringing issues and thought-provoking theatre to new and old audiences.
