The “white” variant of jazz, but above all dance, entertainment and hope – that’s swing. The production gives an account of the clash between the free spirit of music and two totalitarian regimes, a testimony to the unequal struggle in the rhythm of enchanting melodies and the Melody Makers on the stage. The original revue, created directly for the National Theatre, will link up to the best of Ond?ej Havelka’s oeuvre. The production will pay tribute to Ji?í Traxler, a remarkable jazzman and great star of Czech music. Inspired by the artist’s memoirs, Havelka will adapt for the stage the part of Traxler’s life connected with the Czech jazz scene, exposed to two dictatorships that fettered free music. The work does not depict a heroic but an everyday love story in a disjointed time.
