Pulitzer Prize- and Obie Award-winning writer Suzan-Lori Parks (Topdog/Underdog) has written a haunting riff on Nathaniel Hawthorne's famed novel The Scarlet Letter. The main character of In the Blood is Hester La Negrita, a mother of five "illegitimate" children who dreams of finding beauty and love for her family. Desperate to break out of the cycle of poverty, homelessness and helplessness, Hester struggles to defy the odds, as she runs into a series of harsh and unexpected obstacles.
